Question:
I am wondering how I compare?

I am 5'4 and started at 255lbs had surgery on 10/7/02. I have lost a total of 52lbs so far but now it has slowed down. I am happy overall with my loss but am starting to get frustrated with the slow down. I would like to hear from people with similar stats. Are you experiencing a slow down too. I am not exercising lately because of a very bad cold. Any comment appreciated. Thanks!!!    — kelly M. (posted on January 6, 2003)

Hi Kelly, i had surgery on 10/9/02 and have lost 60lbs so far. I have not lost any for the past 3 weeks tho, so you are not the only one! Im not worried about it, im just going to try to increase my water and exercise and see if that helps! good luck to you :-) jen

I am 5'4" and started at 255lbs also. My surgery was on 8/28/02. To date I have lost 67lbs. It does get frustrating when the loss slows down. I found that months 3 & 4 out were hard emotionally for me also. I read this site a lot and have found this appears to be common. Don't give up and hang in there. It will be worth it! Good Luck.

Kelly, we had similar stats. I am 5'3" and started at 249. You are right on track. Check out the bottom of my profile for a month by month loss. It does slow down, especially for us "lightweights" but don't despair, it will continue.

Hi- I am 5'4" and weighed in at 249 for surgery on Oct.31, 2002. So far I have lost 39 pounds and was feeling a little pouty about it but..after thinking it over I realize how greatful I am that I got this operation before I got any larger and could look forward to a greater weight loss. :) Truth is I look and feel better and that is what counts. Patience is not a virtue that I have been blessed with so this has been a hard lesson for me. My body works independently of my mind and sometimes that is a good thing. Keep up the good work and be happy. Sandi

Boy! When I read these types of posts pre-op, I would tell myself I wouldn't get worried about all this stuff BUT since I'm on this side now, I do get frustrated when the scales don't move for 2 weeks and I know I'm not exercising enough to account for building muscle. I drive myself nutty by getting on the scales daily and still don't see any results. But then on the 15th (or 16th or whatever day it happens to be), I get on and lo and behold there is several pounds gone mysteriously. I guess I'm going to have to quit worrying about all this too. Great luck on your weight loss --- it'll happen, I know it will, because all these other people are testifying about it. Take care!
