Question:
What do you think of a vascular surgeon who performs open RNY
I could not find many patients that have had surgery with Dr. Urizar. But I do know of two patients, one was an employee and another was an employee that work closed by. He seems to be very knowledgeable and I feel confident that he willl do a great job. Just was looking for some positive feed back if you have had prior surgery with him. My surgery is schedule for 31DEC02....Would appreciate last minute inspirations. — Elsa F. (posted on December 29, 2002)

My surgeon was a general surgeon, vascular surgeon and thoractic surgeon
who happens to have 20 + years doing bariactric surgery. He has a
phenomenol tract record with this surgery and I have been thrilled with my
surgery, my recovery and his care. I am waiting now for insurance approval
for a tummy tuck and I'm having him do it. I wouldn't dream of using
anyone else.

Hey there...
My surgeon is also a "General, Vascular & Thoracic" surgeon
and I would not trade this man for anyone!!! I think he is awesome! I had
no problems from my surgery so far and I am almost 6 weeks out!! Love and
light,

I think what you should probably focus on is: 1) how long has this surgeon
been doing bariatric surgery? 2) How many of YOUR type of surgery does he
have under his belt? 3) Out of those surgeries, what were the outcomes? Did
the patients lose most or all the weight? Did they have to have revisions?
Any fatalities? Major complications?
My surgeon was double board certified in colo-rectal surgery and upper GI
surgery. She then went into bariatric surgery and had over 500 Roux-En-Y
open procedures under her belt. I would have prefered 1000 or more, but
given the fact that her prior area of specialization was the -entire- GI
tract, and the fact that she had never lost a patient, I felt comfortable
going with her. Research your surgeon with the AMA, talk to patients if he
has a support group. Do your homework. This surgery can be life saving, or
life threatening, and it is my personl opinion that your choice of surgeon
can greatly affect which it is. So, research your surgeon, play it safe,
don't get in a hurry, and best of luck to you :)
