Question:
Is my weight loss extremely slow?
I had lap RNY on Oct 7th, I am 5'4 and started at 255lbs. I am now two months post-op and I have lost 36lbs total. Is my weight loss really slow? I am starting to wonder if I will really be able to get to 155lbs. I would like to hear from others that were my height and weight to compare. Yes I know were all different but I'm still curious. I had open RNY on 9-30-02. Staring height and weight 5' 7 and 264. I have
lost 55 pounds. Are you getting any exercise? I am much better about that
then I am at getting all the protein, even though I try.

My weight loss was really slow until I started getting in all of my
protein. I take Real Meals everyday now and it speeded up a lot. I found
a website that gives post ops a discount www.protein-solution.com

Remember the weight loss is definitely proportional to the total amount one
needs to lose. When I read peoples profiles, the ones that are losing
80-100 lbs in 4-6 months are typically the ones that have to lose upwards
of 200 lbs. You are looking to lose 100 lbs. Based on that you are
already 36% of the way to your goal in just 2 months. That's very
significant in my book.
I haven't had my surgery yet, but lost over
180 lbs 8 years ago. I lost extremely fast at first but I had 250-275 lbs
total to lose. I lost the 190+ (not exactly sure what I weighed when I
started but know it was greater than the 432 that I weight now) in 13
months. It would probably be even faster with the WLS.
You have to
just focus on what you need to do to help your WL along (protein, water,
exercise etc.) and the weight will come off in due time. It will be slower
at times and there will be plateaus. Rather than setting goals of #'s set
goals of size changes. That may seem more significant to know that you are
down another size. Just enjoy such a wonderful loss of 36 lbs. I'm sure
you are feeling a lot better already. Keep the faith. You are doing
great!

Chis is 100 % right. I am 5'2 started at 221, now 191 at 60 days post op.
Yep, it sucks. I too had visions of it dropping off. But my doctor says I
am right on tract. I need to lose a total of 95 lbs, so only 60 more to go.
I am now expecting it to go slow. Some tips...dont weigh real frequenstly.
Maybe once ever 2 weeks so you arent so focused on the number. If you muct
do something...measure yourself on the week you dont weigh. You will be
surprised the inches go down even when the scale is playing with
you.......HANG IN THERE....you will do it, as will I. It will just be a
slow loss for us "light weights" (HAHA).

I too am a light weight. I'm 5'4" with a starting weight of 239 and
had surgery 9/24/02. I've lost 40 pounds so far and received tons of
compliments! I thought my weight loss was kinda slow too but then I sat
back and thought about it. That means I've lost 20 pounds per month. My doc
said to expect 10. So I have doubled his expectations. I've went down one
pants size and am on my way to going down another size. I exercise almost
religiously. I want to every day but if I skip a day, I don't let two go by
without getting myself back into gear. Hang in there. You will look back in
6 months and think to yourself, "What was I worried about?" We
just have to be more patient. I am a person who weighs every day (I know
it's bad but I can't resist) I don't get down on myself when I stay the
same because I know I am doing the right things and EVENTUALLY it HAS TO
COME OFF!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Sweetie, we're in the same boat. I had lap RNY 10/21/02, started at 259
(i'm 5'4 too), am down 32 pounds. And you know what? My weight loss is
perfect. It will happen, just be patient.

I started at 5'3" (still there) and 249. By the end of month 2 I had
lost around 40. As a lightweight we just lose slower than those with more
to lose. Your right, we are all different but you are definitely in the
ball park, and as the months go by you will see a steady loss. After 10
months, I am down to 160 and can see 155 in the distance. You will too.

Boy, do I know how you feel. I'm 5'7" with starting wt of 267 when I
had my open RNY on 10-23. I'm down 29 pounds and have been stuck there for
2 weeks. I know I dont get all my water in so I'm working on that and will
start walking more since I'm on vacation next week so I hope I'll see the
scale move soon. I just have to keep faith that it WILL come off. Hang in
there.

Hi Kelly:
Believe me, I know how you feel. I had surgery on 8/21/02. At two months,
I had lost 34 pounds. Right now, almost 16 weeks after surgery, I have
lost 49 pounds. I started out at 5'4", 230 pounds. I am now down to
181. The one thing that definitely reassures me is that I am still not
hungry, so I know my surgery has worked well. I follow all the rules, just
like you, but my weight loss has been extremely slow. I definitely think
you are losing at an acceptable rate. Keep up the good work. It will come
off, slowly but surely.
Love Grace
