Question:
I am almost 2 years out and I can eat a 6 inch Subway sandwich...Help

I am almost 2 years out, and i can eat what i think to be WAY TO MUCH...I can eat an entire 6 inch Subway sandwich...no chips or anything else...but the whole sandwich...what is going on? I am terrified that i have stretched something or popped something. Is this normal?    — Amber1981 (posted on December 6, 2002)

I don't think there is anything wrong with you. I am only 6 mos. out and I can eat a 6" sandwich minus the fat piece of bread and a whole bag of wow chips............Diane

Hi! I am about 19 months out. I wouldn't worry about it. Can you eat a lot all the time? I find that I can eat more some times (especially around my period) than others. But I may eat a lot one day and then be full after 1/4 or 1/2 cup the next day. If you have some money to burn, buy a sandwich and smooosh the heck out of it. Get all that air out of there. Not to much left, is there? Think a couple ounces of meat, an ounce of cheese (if you're lucky), some veggies and the bread that is mostly air. It really ain't that much. Why do you think they sell 'em with chips and a drink? If you're really worried about it take the cottage cheese test. I worried for months, finally did the test and found out that my pouch capacity was just under a cup--right on schedule. If I were you I would do it just to put your mind at ease. Here's the link: http://www.sabariatric.com/cottage_cheese_test.htm. BTW, I used stiff oatmeal instead of cottage cheese.

Some days I can too, if I eat it really slow and chew it VERY good. But like today- I could only eat a half of a TOGO's... I don't feel that's bad. Compare this to days when I could eat close to a footlong!!! AND, you're eating a sandwhich, one that was probably GOOD for you, rather than then the #3, Supersized from McDonalds. Give yourself a break. :)

Amber, I think that is normal for 2 years out. Like the previous poster said, its better than a combo meal at a fast food place. Also, remember , your pouch is supposed to stretch some, thats normal. But if it just stretches enough for a 6 inch and not the 12 inch, I think you are OK. Are you gaining? If not, don't worry.

What would you have eaten at subway preop?? Me..a 12 inch sub with extra meat and cheese, bag of chips, 2 otis spunkmeyer cookies and an extra large rootbeer. Wow, a six inch sub is sounding like what a NORMAL person would eat. I guess my question to you would be, are you at goal, and is your weight flucuating tremendously, and do you feel that you need to lose more weight?? IF you are at goal, and your weight is not increasing, then I am sure thatyou are fine. You may not want to make a sub a daily meal, but every now and then is not too bad. And as a previous poster said...much better then a combo meal at McDonalds. Now, if you want to lose additional weight, you may want to make different choices for your meals until you hit goal. Good luck to you, don't panic, for "tomorrow is another day"!!

I'm six months out and the other day while driving cross-country I stopped at Mc D's and had a filet-0-fish and a large coffee-I was surprised when I finished the whole thing (it took two tries over an hour). But your question got me thinking that six months ago I could eat a large 14' sub from the deli/can of pringles/quart of iced tea and a pint of Ben and Jerry's Chubby Hubby. Now I just can't because a.) it don't fit and b.) I'd get sick as a dog! This surgery is doing exactly as it's supposed to! I was on vacation for three weeks and despite partying daily and eating some awesome Mexican and Puerto Rican food and lossed two pounds (really thought I was going to have to pay the piper when I got back!

At just a little over a year out I can sometimes eat a six inch meatball sub from Subway...and other times, I can barely eat 3 bites...it just depends on a variety of factors. I look at it as I can be "normal"...and in all honesty, since I am at goal, I feel pretty good about this, since if I do go out, I don't have to be intimidated by food choices...I can eat normal and feel good about it. Have a Sparkling Day!! ~CAE~

Just because you could...doesn't mean you should... If you keep doing what you've always done...you will get what you've always got. Something has to change. Learn to eat until NOT HUNGRY. Don't eat because it tastes good...or to finish your plate. Eat just barely enough to stop the hunger...or you will find yourself in trouble later. We didn't get MO by osmosis. Our bodies can really make a lot out of a calorie. I am 3 years post and holding a 161 lb weight loss. Not easy....it's not easy.
