Question:
I am one week out and feel I can eat like a horse, I'm so distraught

I am 9 days post op, and have not been able to follow my full liquid diet ordered by the Dr. My little bit of yougurt was not cutting it, so I added in a few things, I pureed the heck out of some chicken and carrots,it ended up going down smoooooothly, I've tried cheese- no problem, egg drop soup-no problem, KFC Mashed taters-no problem. I have felt no neausea, no vomiting, and I feel really hungry all day (Like I'm on a diet waiting for the next meal) Last night, in about 30 minutes I ate 1 container of Yougurt 6oz,2oz cottage cheese and 1 oz of sliced cheese...HOW is it that am able to eat 9oz of food without feel a even the least bit ill. I have gotten very very depressed about this. I'm thinking maybe the Doctor did something wrong ? Maybe I'm just part of that percentage that this surgery does not work for....As I totally out of my mind for thinking I should be barfing ? Oh Help ! why can I eat so much (and not feel full, just satisfied)?    — WABBIT F. (posted on November 26, 2002)

Please call your doctor right away. You need some reassurances things will be okay and to understand what is going on. Chris D.

I am 5 weeks post op and have yet to feel full. I have been on pureed foods since 10 days post op. At first I was also sure I was one of the few not helped by WLS....but everyone I have poken too assures me that it is because the liquids and pureed foods leave the pouch so quickly. Go to the question and answer section of this site...under "POST OP DIET" and read the posts on hunger....there are a ton of them all describing how we are feeling. IT doesn't take away the hunger, but it made me feel better!!

Waibitt, just my 2cents, I think you should call your dtr, but, secondly, you shouldn't be eating what your eating yet unless your dtr tells you too. Your puch is still swollen and healing, you should be following his guidelines to a 't'...Secondly, are you REALLY hungry with hunger apines or is it HEAD HUNGER?

Hi; I am 42 post r-n-y and felt the same way in the beginning. And was sure surgery wasnt going to work. even asked my doc how big a pouch he gave me.......but now, finally I dont feel hungry all the time. In the beginning I think the head hunger was the worst. But now I am quite content with small posrtions, though I still at times feel like I can eat more than lots of folks do. I am destined to be a slow loser starting out at 40.7 bmi...i am down 25lbs in 41 days. I cant look at some of the folks stats that had higher BMI's cause it seems like I have lost nothing compared to them. But I know I am losing and doing well. Maybe I will have less issues with skin than someofour faster losers...just hang in there. I am sure you are right where you are supposed to be. and maybe run it by you doc just for a little moral boost. Aloha Keniki

Once you are on solid foods you will feel more satisfied and full.

I'm almost 2 months post-op, down 34 pounds. I am a light weight, but still thought I should be losing faster. I was on a plateau for a couple of weeks, but once I started walking, I started losing. Once you get on solid foods, you will feel better, just do not drink anything with it. I find that when I drink with my meals, I get hungry really quick. Take Care!
