Question:
Does anyone take liquid vitamins or something else?
I am 2 weeks post-op and I am having a problem with my flinstone vitamins. I gag when I try to take them. I tried with food, gatorade. I don't know what to do. I am now nasuated all the time. The doctor gave me something to help with that but I am not able to take my vitamins. I thought maybe I could find some liquid form or some other waay. Cherry, grape and orange is something I cannot tolerate for now. I even gag at the thought of my popsicles because of the flavors. Any thought would be appreciated. Thanks — Sharon F. Aloha!!! My surgeon makes us wait for 5-6 weeks before prescribing
vitamins. He believes there is a strong link between using vitamins too
early and stomach ulcers and adhesions (scar tissue)formation. At 6 weeks,
I began taking Prenatal vitamins with no problems whatsoever. I also take
Liquid Calcium Citrate along with the ever so lovely protein supplements
(though I am getting MUCH better about getting my protein in through my
diet vs. supplementation). Keep in mind that each doctor's philosophy
regarding post op care is different. Talk to your surgeon about your
problems with the vitamins and he might be able to give you some guidance.
There are lots of different alternatives out there. They have GummiBear
vitamins which are easy to chew. They also have vitamin in GUM form..Just
have to make sure you are not the type to swallow gum though!(My surgeon
believes that the childrens' chewable vitamins are not appropriate for
adult post ops because they lack many of the complex vitamins that we
require). Good luck!!!!! Hugs, Kathie (in Hawaii).... Open RNY / 08-07-02

I am almost 2 months out, and take so many pills and vitamins that I have a
hot cup of tea, and take all my pills that way. Before the pills filled up
my stomach and were not comfortable. Now the tea seems to melt the pills
and I am much better off.

I take liquid vitamins~it's called All-in-One Plus. A cranberry, aloe vera
tasting vitamin supplement that is made by a company called Tropical Oasis.
It comes in a brown bottle for $29.95 at most GNC stores IF it is not on
sale. You can call 1-800-815-9354. I have asked the company sales/marketing
to give our "family" a discount or sorts by mentioning that you
are a gastric bypass patient from www.ObesityHelp.com. Sorry I can't
remember how much is in the bottle but you take one tablespoon/day and it
lasts for 30 days.

Hi! I have a horrible gag reflex and hate taking pills. I've been taking
the Isontonix multi-vitamin and Calcium. They are a powder that you mix
with a small amount of water. They are effervescent so I have to sip them
but they taste great! (like orange pop) and my blood levels have been
great. Good luck to you!
