I am 17months post op from RNY. I have lost 155lbs and am at goal. I met my goal at 10months. Anyhow, the last 2months I have been waking up with my bed soaked! I am cold all the time except when I sleep I guess. The sleep partner wakes me up during the night and comments on my perspiring and temperature. He is concerned and so am I. What else could this be? Arent I a little young for the "change". Thank You in Advance//Candiss Thompson — Candiss T. (posted on November 18, 2002)

About 10 years before you go through the change you go through the little
change (peri)which can bring night sweats. I was lucky and this didn't
happen to me, but some of my friends experienced this about your age.

Unfortunately, we aren't too young for it! I just turned 42 and also have
night sweats. They seemed pretty regular for a while then tapered off.
Hadn't had any since before my WLS in July. Call your GYN, they can order
bloodwork that can tell them if you are starting menopause or not.

I'm 46 and starting having night sweats last spring and according to my
doctor I am not quite menopausal yet. I have some friends who started
having these when they were about 42. I hate them. I tend to get them the
worst from the waste down.

Welcome to Hot Flash Hell!!!! No sorry to tell you you are not to young, I
started about the same time or earlier. I know that you can take some type
of hormone replacement but, I have also heard they can stop the weight
loss.... go figure..... GOOD LUCK!!!

I will second the last poster and welcome you to HOT FLASH HELL! HRT does
help! A LOT.. and I am still losing.. 15 weeks out and down 66 lbs.
I have to say too,I have noticed since I started losing weight I am always
cold.. except for the hot flashes.. I don't even remember what a normal
body temprature is! Good luck.. it is definately a rough time, talk to your
GYN and see if HRT is for you. It does make a difference. I have gone off
of it due to my high risk of Breast Cancer (have an appointment with my GYN
tomorrow to talk about natural replacement) so I can really sympathize with
you.

Night sweats can be caused by other things besides the change. It can also
be a symptom of TB, or HIV. You may want to look into these. After
loosing your weight so quickly sometimes our immune systems are a little
suppressed and you may have contracted TB.
