Question:
I am pre op and have read that we need to limit our liquid intake before and after a
meal. Does this include protein shakes or liquid meals? — Mickey K. (posted on September 20, 2002)

yes it does. For two reasons. 1st, the fluid could "flush" the
food out of your pouch- making you hungery quicker and not allow you to
absorb the nutrients that you need. 2nd, if you get too much protein in in
one sitting, it does not do you any good. You should have no more then 30
grams of protein (some say 25 grams) in one sitting. So make sure that you
spit it up.

I drink water before & after my protein drink. The directions call for
16 oz of water and I prefer much less for my taste, so in essence, I'm just
getting it in separate packages.
