Question:
Shrimp, Scallops & Pizza (ohh, also Wendy's Chili)
I am 4 wks post-op today, and I was wondering when I at what point everyone ate & kept down the following: Shrimp, scallops, pizzaria style pizza and Wendy's Chili? — heathercross (posted on September 12, 2002)

I think it was my 4th week post-op that I started eating Wendy's chili. I
haven't had any of the other 3 post-op yet (but I have had imitation
crabmeat).

Heather, I am 3 mos post-op Open VBG and I could do Wendy's chili at 4 wks,
but wasn't allowed to do shrimp or scallops until 7 wks out. I still have
not tried pizza because white bread doughs ball up in my pouch and I have
to throw up to get relief. I can tolerate some wheat bread, but only small
amounts (bite or two). Good luck!

Wendy's Chili at about 4 weeks...just chew it well, but sometimes I would
have to spit out the skins of the beans (no way to do that politely so
don't eat it at a dinner party).
I had shrimp/tuna fish/salmon at 6 weeks. I haven't had scallops, but I
certainly would have at 6 weeks too. I think shrimp is the best possible
thing I could eat if I could afford it more often....lot of protein!
Pizza...I ate the toppings from Pizza Hut Stuffed Crust pizza at 8
weeks...I did have a couple of bites of the crust. I suggest just getting
a fork and go at it. A good size pizza will last for days! :)

Hi Heather. I ate wendys chili at 4 weeks shrimp at 6 and pizza at 7. I
have to say something about pizza though, I would take one or two bites of
it with the crust (thin and crispy)and then just eat the topping. The crust
really does stuff up the pouch for me. And a note on the shrimp... GREAT
protein and I find I can actually eat alot of the with cocktail sauce. They
are mostly water. good luck!~

I could eat chili and seafood at about 2 months post-op, but PIZZA!??! No
way. I am 5 months out now I cannot and will not eat that. Maybe the top of
one piece, but that is it. No crust ever, I cannot eat bread or pasta. If
you aren't scared off pizza, look at the "nutirtional" info on
the back of a Di Giorno's pizza box. It is insane, like 600 calories/slice.
And I have to believe that is pretty typical of restaurant-type pizzas. I
try not to make a habit of eating pizza tops though, because the cheese
most places use is very fatty.
Good luck- and bring on the shrimp!

I dont eat seafood, but I starting eating small amounts of pizza (thin!) at
about 6 weeks. Now at 3 month, I can eat a 1/2 slice....as long as its
slow and I chew really well! I only eat it very occasionally (once a
month?)

Heather, I ate shrimp at about 2 months post op, scallops I won't even
try, because pre-op I remember them always being tough to chew, so I figure
I'd have a hard time trying to chew them into small earaser size bites, So
I don't even do that. The pizza thing, Nope haven't done it, Every now and
then I'll eat a little of the meat and just a little of the cheese from the
pizza, but won't dare touch the pizza crust, I admit I did try a peice of a
bread stick from pizza hut, now don't get me wrong it was a small peice,
but needless to say it didn't stay down, and I felt green within mintues of
eating it... Yuck !!, I don't think it was worth the pain from throwing up,
since them I won't touch it. I'm trying really hard to be a good girl and
stay within 1000 or less carlories, so pizza crust and what nots would be
off limits... My food of choice would be the shrimp..
Best of luck to you.
Me I'm post op 16 weeks and down 80 pounds

Heather, Sorry me again, I did forget to mention, Wendy's chilli ain't that
good.. I can't do it... I prefer Weiner zitle's Chilie, It's the bomb, I
don't know the fat grams, but I do have it as a little treat in a little
cup... good stuff..

Cutting anything into pencil eraser sized bits BEFORE inserting in mouth
allows us to eat nearly anything. Jen my wife ate pizza mostly toppings on
day 8 of 10 of clear liquids:( She hurried things a bit. Chili and shrimp
are great early on choices.

I will be 8 months out on the 23rd and I still can't eat chili. I don't
know if I can eat pizza since I avoid carbs like a disease. Be careful
when you try new foods and follow your doctor's guidelines for food.

Make your own chili... while Wendy's chili is convenient.. you can make
your own that's better for you and higher in carbs... I have been eating
shrimp for awhile... I'm not supposed to eat any pork or beef for six
months.. I don't like scallops.. and I'd suggest that pizza isn't such a
great choice due to the carbs and fat.. but you have to make your own
choices.. it'll be a long time before I eat any pizza... good luck...

Clarification: my question about pizza is just curiousity, I know it is not
a good source of protein and very high in carbs...and with regard to
Wendy's Chili, when I was pre-op, EVERYONE spoke about Wendy's Chili...so I
was jusy curious. I have made my own chili all my life...I will probably
do the same now.

wendy's chilli is good because the meat is boiled..not fried. if you make
chilli at home i suggst you boil the meat also to keep the fat down. there
are about 7gr. of fat and 15gr. of protein in a small serving.

hi there i eat all three of these things i feel that the shrimp is the best
choice. lowest in carbs highest in protein. the pizza i do only on
occassion and ususally its always the toppings of the meat and cheese. i
did shrimp and chili probably at about 6 weeks out and pizza later.
