Question:
did elevated liver enzymes cancel or postpone your surgery?
Hi everyone, I went for my final clearance today only to find out that my liver enzymes are elevated, my PCP is sending me to a endocronologist tomorrow, so my question is, did any of you have elevated liver enzymes before your surgery and if so did you have to cancel or postpone your surgery? I am so worried, my surgery is scheduled for the 19th of Sept!!! Thanks, Amy Stockle — Amy S. (posted on September 10, 2002)

The elevated enzymes could be from the fat in your liver from being
overweight...Ask the Doc to do a liver biopsy during surgery if they're
concerned...I have a form of hepatitis from being so fat for so long and I
found out from the biopsy during my wls...Good luck...

Amy, highly elevated liver enzymes is the reason I had this surgery. I had
a fatty liver as does most morbidly obese people. In order to save my liver
I needed to lose weight fast. I am now over 18 months post-op and a biopsy
was done on my liver during a gallbladder removal in July. I was just told
that my liver looks great. This was my reason for having the surgery. My
health was the issue as is for most of us. The extras of getting to and
below goal was a plus. Good luck and I can't imagine that your surgery
would be cancelled.

Elevated liver enzymes did not postpone my surgery but I had to have a
Hepatitis panel blood test done before surgery and a liver biopsy done
during surgery.

No, in fact it might make it easier for you to get approval as a
co-morbidity. I had elevated liver enzyme levels as well and it was never
an issue at all. Good luck.
