Can you still take your medication in pill form after surgery?

Yes, although it is recommended that time release medications be changed,
as we do not absorb those types well after WLS.

My doc says no. Especially in the first few months. Your stomach is just so
small that it is not going to break down and absorm that medication like it
should. If you have a gelcap or something that can't be cruched, you might
try to get it is tablet form. I have found that crushing the medication
makes it taste really bad, but I have found that a little spple juice helps
that.

My surgeon says it has to be smaller than the size of an M&M. If it's
larger than an M&M I cut it into pieces, and take 1 piece every 5
minutes per surgeon's orders.

Wendy- Every surgeon will have a different opinion on this, so every
post-op will too. Let your surgeon direct you. I have been taking pill and
capsule form meds/vit since 2 weeks post op and have no problems.

I take an iron pill, pre-natal vitamin in a pill form, synthroid and any
other medication in a pill form and haven't had any problem.
