Question:
why is there an age limit if your health is not good?
I am 61 and have many health problems, yet the Dr.s I have contacted (throught their office) tell me I am too old. One cut off age is 55 and the other Dr.'s cut off age is 59. — SR M. (posted on September 7, 2002)

Each surgeon is different. Mine operates on folks to about 70. You will
need to shop around. Did the surgeons evaluate you and decide your too high
risk or just say the oldest we operate on is X years your too olds...

I just wanted to tell you I was 62 when I had my surgery in April. My
doctor has since operated on a 66 year old. I've lost 79 pounds. Any
questions e-mail me and I'll try to answer.

I am 67 and 8 months out from rny lap. Did you speak to the
"office" and not the surgeons? If the surgeon himself evaluated
you and turned you down - be thankful and perhaps you could continue your
search for a good surgeon. If you find one that sounds good- tell the
"office you are 52 yrs old or whatever sounds good to get you in for a
consultation.
I had co morbs- COPD (lungs) and apnea and was in bad shape at 296.
bmi 51 - NOW - 95 lbs later - so far - my meds cut way down and I go to
health club 5 times a week and shop without dropping - into a chair.

You mentioned you have MANY health problems, could that be the reason? I
also live in Alabama, you may want to check with my surgeon, (he is
wonderful).
I am 52 and had no problems what so ever with surgery or after surgery.
I hope you are able to find a Doctor that will help you out.
