Question:
Has anyone had surgery using a semi or modified open?
Has anyone had Dr. Alexander in Dallas Texas semi or modified open surgery type, utilizing a 4 inch incision and partial lapriscopic technique? — cynthia C. (posted on August 29, 2002)

I only have a 4 inch incision, and NO LAP marks. Lots of docs area doing
this through the 4 inch incisions. It is called a laparotomy (vs
laproscopy) incision. I would question your doc about why he needs to use
laproscopy in addition to the incision. Good Luck to you.

Hi. Just a clarification. A laparotomy is a descriptive term that refers
to ANY surgical procedure where the abdomen is opened up via an incision of
any length. JK, RN

Hi there! I was supposed to have this procedure. My surgeon uses a 3 1/2
inch cut. Unfortunately, I had a fatty liver and he could not do it with
the smaller cut so he had to extend it to 5 inches. Although 5 inches is
still alot smaller than what some people get. From what I hear, this is a
newer technique and not alot of surgeons are doing it yet.
