Question:
What have you noticed post-op?
Hello, everyone. One of the posts got me thinking about how I have yet to really notice my weight loss physically. I know there are more of you out there wondering when it will show, but let me ask you this....what are some things you HAVE noticed? Even little things. — Kelly C. (posted on August 20, 2002)

Hi Kelly - I first thing I noticed was when I went to eat in a diner and I
fit into a booth with no problem. I also noticed that the seatbelt in my
car fit much better. I know these are small things but they make you feel
as though you are accomplishing something. Keep up the great work! - Mike

Its the little things.. and I'm really just starting out, but I went to a
store yesterday.. The Avenue. I wore a 30/32 there for most of the time..
I went in an bought 4 shirts yesterday that are 22/24 .. they all fit and
when I got home, I realized two were too big. Its fun... and a great
feeling.

One of the first things I remember noticing was that I didn't have to buy
wide width shoes anymore:) I could wear flip flops and not hang over the
sides!

A week or so ago, I was doing something and got CAPTIVATED by my hands! I
stared at them for about five minutes.. they looked like they belonged to
someone else! My fingers are thinner, and the dimples at my knuckles are
much more visible than they once were.
I was able to get into a friends small car, and for teh first time in YEARS
buckle the seatbelt without leaning the seat back!
(This could be a TMI- too much information) While sitting on the toilet.. I
notice that parts of my thighs are seeing daylight that have probably not
seen any in years! LOL
I can more easily feel the 'cords' in my own neck.
I'm less of a 'hard draw' for blood at the Dr.'s office!
I fit better in seats in waiting rooms and in restaurant booths!
I could go on, but I'll leave some things for others.. *G*
~Peace!

This may be too much information to share. But this weekend was the first
time me and my husband who 140 lbs soak and wet was able to take a bath
together. Romantic and memorable. Walking pass windows to business and
catching a climps and not seeing the big body that use to reflect back at
me. Feels good.

These are small things but they felt like major milestones to me: I now
fit in a booth without feeling claustrophobic, I can cross my legs
comfortably, I can sit Indian style on the floor with my kids without my
legs going to sleep, I can walk the whole mall pushing my son in the
stroller without stopping to rest. What a wonderful "new" life
we have now!!!

Well I am 2 mths post op and the first thing I notice was driving my car.
I had to have the back of seat leaning so far back, that I had no back
support at all. Well 2 wks after surgery I started to drive and was able
to crank up the back of the seat a little, and every time after that I have
been able to crank up the seat more. I now sit in my car like everyone
else (((YEAH))). I am now working on tilting the steering wheel down to
the lowest point. Yesterday I got into the car to get my purse out, and
looked at the driver seat and the position of the steeering wheel, and
realized no one would think that it looked any different from anyone elses.
((((((YEAH)))))

there isnt enought time or room on this page for me to tell you!:) i am
almost 6 months post op. i had to buy a new car, the 7 yr old one, just
didnt fit my smaller butt anymore. next stop the mattress store... the 10
yr old bed doesnt fit my butt anymore either :) all things soft and
impressionble have deep lumps in them.now sitting surfaces have to be just
right cause the bones in my butt are no longer padded with 80 extra pounds.
although spending money is hard when my budget is so tight, i am worth it.
and the reason i need these new items is a good one.i have no regrets, i am
just working more hours. used to work 10 hrs a week and was considering
disability, now i work 45 hrs a week and loving it.
loved your question.

Hi... Other people look at me and can immediately see the loss. I look in
the mirror and see the same old me. But proof is in the pudding they say
so: my seatbelt buckles easily now, I went from a 34 pant to a 22-24 so
far, I am wearing cute shoes - not orthopedics, I am no longer breathless,
am off bp meds and one cholesterol drug, my hair is falling out so I got it
cut short and it really shows, I can wipe my butt EASILY, I can bend over
to pick up something, my rings are falling off, I bought a new dress and
didn't try it on thinking I'd know the size -- I have to take it back and
get a smaller size, I don't eat bags of candy anymore, I take all my
supplements faithfully, I climb stairs without being winded and the list
goes on. I'm 68# down and feeling super.

Lots of little things! I can bend over (in half) to shave my legs rather
than bending forward and sticking my leg out. Not having to
"heave" myself to get up from a sitting position and not having
to put my hand on something to help myself up. Instead of walking 20
minutes every morning and thinking "how long will this take?", I
can now easily walk 45+ minutes each morning and I wish I had more time so
I could walk longer! Restaurant booths and turnstyles in the grocery store
are no longer my enemy! Wiping myself (potty) is much easier now. Sex is
easier (and better) as well! ;o) One of my favorite things is picking
clothes out of my closet I haven't worn in more than 3 years and not only
do they fit but now they are also getting loose! Woo hoo! There's plenty
more but I'll let someone else have a turn. Life just keeps getting better
& better. :o)

Oh too many to listI can notice my weight loss at 6 months now, but some
days I still feel quite fat. So, I try to remember these: I've had to move
my car seat up, because my big butt doesn't push me closer to the pedals
anymore. I can walk between my desk and the counter on the wall in my
office without having to turn sideways. I can jog!! I go to ballgames and
concerts without being afraid someone is thinking "Oh no, I she going
to sit next to me?". My ankles aren't sore at the end of every day.
Men stare at me. I smile more. I am moving and realized I have no clothes
to pack except the ones I am wearing right now. My beloved bubble baths
actually cover more than half of my body. Other people really, REALLY
notice. And most importantly - when I enter a room filled with people I
don't feel like a freak anymore.

I've noticed I had to move my carseat CLOSER to the steering wheel. I am
down 90 pounds and I still don't see my weight loss. Everyone else sees it,
but not me.

Well, I'm only 2 weeks out, but have already noticed that my clothes are
longer. Amazing how they grow when you don't take up so much of them!

I no longer have to do the "fat chick shuffle" when wearing
shorts (You know, where you walk 3 steps and then swing one leg out and
give it a li'l shake to let the shorts that have bunched up all the way to
your crotch fall back down). I no longer just HAVE to have whatever food
they are advertising on TV. I can run if I have to . . . Quite a long way.
I was surprised! The regular sized clothes no longer look like doll clothes
and I can tell when something is too big just by looking at it. People talk
to me more often and I am more animated and smile more. I just have a
generally more positive attitude. More--lots more--but that's a start. =)

I have to say I love being able to Paint my toenails. Before it would be
hard cause I could barley breath when I was bending to do it. Also just a
tip for everyone Keep at least one pair of pants from your top weight to
try on when your feeling like you haven't lost. It's amazing how it reminds
you of just how much you lost. I cleaned out my closet this weekend and was
trying on some old clothes and coulnd't believe they were mine. My husband
said no you were never that big. GOD love him.
Anyway this is the best thing we could have ever done for ourselfs.
CONGRADULATIONS TO ALL OF US!!!!!!

There's lots, but here's a couple: I no longer tower over my dh when
sitting next to him in church. My butt use to raise me up so my head was
higher than his. Now I'm "shorter" :-) Another thing that
always amazes me is how much friendlier everyone else in the world has
gotten. Complete strangers now talk to me like I'm their best friend.

I put on a Grey T-shirt to wear to my first time back to the gym last week,
the neck collar was hanging to my boobs. I actually had to pull the shirt
around and look at the tag to make sure it was my T-shirt and not someone
elses. Too funny! I felt great!

I was sitting in my little car... at a stop light with many lanes of cars
around me. For some reason everything looked "weird". I was
looking up at the stop light like it was a mile high. I could hardly see
the cars (outside the side windows). MY GOD I WAS SITTING LOOOOWWWWWWWWW.
In other words, I lost so much fat off my bleeping butt that I was really,
really, really sitting low. So then I knew I was definately losssing
weight. (This was during the first three months or so when weight drops so
fast you can't adjust to it mentally).
