I've had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & Fibromyalgia for 14 years. I had the surgery, not so much to lose weight, as to hopefully get more energy. Instead I have less energy even though I've lost 90 pounds! It seems almost physically impossible! My labs are normal, so I'm getting the nutrition I need. A friend heard on a talk show that fatigue is common after the VB surgery and until your weight stabilizes. Can you tell me if this is true? I need some hope here. I've had to quit work on June 20, because I was no longer able to make it. Just getting a shower, brushing my teeth, getting up to get something to eat is a huge task. I need someone "in the know" to give me an answer. Thank you very much! — Joanie C. (posted on August 9, 2002)

Well I'm 15 months out from an Open RNY. For almost all of that time I've
felt like I've been run over by a truck. The last few months I feel some
better... but STILL NO ENERGY.
I'm losing hope myself, even though I'm down 150 lbs (40 to goal). I sure
don't know where all the energy is that everyone crows about.

Hi: I am one year post op today(YIPPEE!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!) and
there are alot of days when I can hardly hold my head up. I go to bed and
sleep for7-8 hours during the day. It is not just that I am tired and need
a nap, but my entire body is EXHAUSTED..So tired that I don't even want to
eat...I have good days and bad days...Dr says my bloods are fine and that
my body is still adjusting to my lower intake....I just learned to live
with it and when I am tired I just flat go to bed and let my body catch
back up...I hope too that there is a light at the end of that
tunnel....Good Luck..

Joanie, it doesn't sound like it is the VB that is making you fatigued, but
the Fibro and Chronic Fatigue that are hitting you upside the head. I'm
sorry, sweetie. So, your B-12 and iron were normal? If so, then the
"just getting up to get something to eat is a huge task" sounds
like a Fibro flareup. Hang in there-at least your 90 pounds lighter!

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1993. I know that losing weight does
not TOUCH my fibro pain...I've lost 69 lbs. since my RnY on 5/2/02, but
I've had several fibro flares since then. My sleep is still disturbed,
even though I no longer have sleep apnea. I'm still fatigued. Fibro has
its own sleep disorder that has nothing to do with the sleep apnea. When I
was dxed with fibro I weighed 150 lbs. I know my JOINT pain has been
relieved somewhat by the weight loss. But since fibro pain is in the
connective tissues (and feels muscular), that pain remains untouched.
