Question:
Cigna PPO/PPA in the EDS group plan?
What difficulties did you have in getting approval? Do you have any advise in getting approval? Would I get approval quicker if I had an Attorney deal with Cigna? — cynthia C. (posted on August 1, 2002)

I had Cigna PPO. I was approved the first time, with in a 3 week period.
Hope this helps

I also had some problems with Cigna....I kept getting the run around from
them, kept being told that my paperwork was in review and would have an
answer within 15 working days...15 working days came and went and then the
15 became 20, then 30, etc. I finally got a manager's help who kind of got
things rolling a bit, but when that wasn't moving fast enough either, I
started doing some research to find out who the higher-ups are with Cigna,
got some names of CEO's and Directors and would you believe that I got an
answer the next day. Although it was not the answer that I wanted...I was
denied...but it was an answer. The worst part was the waiting and not
knowing what the outcome was going to be and being that I got an answer
late afternoon on a Tuesday and my surgery was for that Thursday morning, I
was a bit relieved. I did know deep down that it was going to be denied
the first time around because I kept hearing horror stories about Cigna
from people in this area that have used them (or tried to). I do plan on
appealing this and will take it as far as I have to go to try and get this
approved. I do wish you luck...don't give up because I know how
frustrating it can be, but just keep calling, try to get as many people to
help you as you can and eventually persistence will pay off - hopefully the
outcome will all the worth it.

I also forgot to add that you should get in touch with the Insurance
Commissioner and file a complaint. The amount of time they are taking to
make a decision is absolutely ridiculous. Have you checked your benefits
manual? Is there a time limit where they have to give you a decision on
pre-certification? If so, then you definitely have a major complaint on
your hands. Either way, I would get in touch with your state's insurance
commissioner.
