Question:
Referral from PCP for Nutritionist

The Nutritionist advised that even though my insurance carrier does not require a referral from my PCP, the hosptial (Hopkins Bayview)does, and wants me to obtain one prior to my visit on with her on August 16. My PCP won't do it because they say my isurance only covers nutritionist visits if I have diabetes - which I don't. I am working with the Administrator at BC/BS to get approval, but the surgeon's office is, as usual, dragging her feet. The surgeon's office told me that she would send the request to BC/BS this week (I'll hold my breath). My question is, does anyone know what could happen if this requirement isn't met. It's the surgeon's office that is holding up the process. Any help is appreciated.    — Kathy M. (posted on July 7, 2002)
