Question:
Why am I losing so slowly
I am 9 weeks post-op and after listening to other people on this site, I feel like I am losing very slowly. I have only lost 34 pounds in 9 weeks. Am I falling behind? How can I speed up the loss? I am walking 1 1/2-3 miles per day and working out at curves 2-3 times a week. HELP! — Ammy T. (posted on July 2, 2002)

Everyone is different. Don't worry it will come off. Make sure you are
getting enough water, protein, and vitamins. Sometimes you have to
increase the amount you are eating to lose. Good Luck.

I am 5 weeks post-op and am having the same problems. I have lost little
weight, but know that I am losing inches. My nutritionist said that I am
probably building muscle (which weighs more than fat), thus the scales
aren't going down, but the inches are falling off. I am keeping a food
journal to take to my next appointment to prove to the doctor that I am not
cheating or overeating. I hope the nutritionist's theory is right! Maybe
this is what is happening to you too!

You need to step back and take into account that people start at different
weights. You cannot compare weight loss when you start at a lower BMI to
someone like me who started at over 300lbs! (Well, I guess you can, but it
probably will make you crazy worrying!) From what I understand, the lower
BMI the more likely you are to make it to your ideal range - so just keep
doing what you are doing - it sounds to me like you are doing great!
Congrats.

You and everybody else who posts "After listening to other people on
this site" need to realize you CANNOT COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS.
There's your trouble in a nutshell... you cannot compare because all loose
differently, and we all look differently no matter what we loose. Ditch
the scale, it is more headache than help. I have been told that at 195, I
look like I weigh 175. Whatever! Keep doing what you are doing. I lost
approx. 16.5lbs per month- which is average, which is what you have
accomplished. On a normal diet system, a healthy loss is 2lbs. per week
and no more. Be happy, forget about expectations (what were YOUR
expectations? Were they realistic?) so early out.

Hi Ammy, Try this, Start taking your measurements. If you are working out
this much you may just be building muscle. You will still loose fat but you
are reshaoing your body with the new muscle. Muscle weighes more than fat.
Stay off the scale for a while and just do measurements. Don't worry, you
will lose. God Bless you, feel free to e mail me if you'd like.
