Hello Jennifer,
My name is Laurie and,I too, have MS I have had it for 5 years
now and when I looked into having an RNY done my consultation
with the doctor had many questions. One of wich had to do with
the MS. I was approved for surgery and had an open RNY done and
have beenn doing very well. I'm 59# down as of last Friday and
I also wanted to let you know that I take Copaxone every night
before bed.
Please look me up on the Meet the Peers section where you will see stuff on
me, ( my husband Ronald , & my sis-in-law who started the ball rolling
) Email
me if you need to. Take care. Good Luck & God Bless.

When I had surgery (at age 28), I had been diagnosed with MS for about four
years. I found that everything went pretty smoothly with the surgery, but
I did have a few exacerbations in the months following surgery and also it
was difficult to get in a lot of exercise, because my legs wouldn't allow
it. Other than that, no big deal. YES, you take Avonex fine afterward.
Also, you can take oral prednisone for a short time if necessary. It's
tough on your stomach, but since they usually only have you on it for a
coupla weeks at a time, it's fine. Let me know if I can help you with any
other questions.
