Question:
How soon after having a baby can you have WLS?

I am considering WLS but I'm currently pregnant. My baby is due 10/7. I was just wondering how long after my baby's born will I have to wait for surgery. Could I begin the pre-op things like consultations now?    — Katie B. (posted on June 22, 2002)

My son was 8 months old and weighed 26 pounds! I would recommend having it as soon as possible. I've seen others that have had it as early as 3 months. With the lifting restrictions, it was challenging. Have the surgery before the baby gets too big!!! Shelley

I don't know if this is important (being a man) but if you plan to breast feed it MAY delay it. Good Luck

I had a baby March 24,2001 and had surgery exactly 6wks. later on May 11,2001. I had no problems what so ever. Hope this helps you. Bree

First, congratulations on being pregnant- what a wonderful thing! I am only 22 and new post-op so i have a few years before my time is here! :) I would start your journey with WLS now, because it can take months before everything can happen. ANd as the previous poster said, once out of surgery, the lifting restrictions can be difficult for a few weeks, so it would be best while your baby is still newborn and not too heavy. But get a consultation with your surgeon and talk to him, I'm sure he will know all about this. goodluck to you!
