Both my chiropractor and message therapist say that EVERYONE should drink half their weight in oz. of water every day. If you weigh 204 pounds, half of that would be 102 and that is what you should drink in oz. of water every day. Of course if you are drinking caffinated drinks besides that, you need to add an additional ounce of water for every oz. of them that you drink.

While I don't think water will stretch the pouch (I could be wrong?) but I feel it just slips right througgh. I do think just following your Doctor's advice is recommended.. So if they say that is fine, continue on.. If they think that is a bit overkill, then bring it down to whatever is advised. Thing is if you have an obsessive "thing" about water or exercise, I would much rather have that, than an obsessive "thing" about food! The one thing highly recommended in life (in general) is "everything in moderation" however, I don't feel that it may apply to water- it just when you get use to SO MUCH water, then the lack of water some days may be a bummer to your system???? Just a theory!

I'm still pre-op but at our support group meeting tonight, one of the surgeons said that most people can drink as much liquid as they like. It moves through your pouch fairly quickly, so there really isn't a need to worry about stretching your pouch. Also, they said they don't like you to drink while you eat because it washes the food out of your pouch. If liquids wash out all the food, you are going to be hungry again sooner than if it "sticks with you longer". Hope this helps! =)

I am one month post-op, and I do the same thing. I can guzzle water just like I could before, but I can't eat very much. I crave water. I always feel like I can't drink enough of it; even now the thought of it makes me want it! I would not worry about it as long as you are not eating more than you should be able to!
