Question:
Unprotected Sex
My girfriend had surgery 8 wks ago and was stupid and had unprotcted sex over the weekend, would her new post-op body reject the morning after pill to prevent the possible pregnacy? — heathercross (posted on June 10, 2002)

Your girlfriend may want to make an appointment with her OB/GYN.
They can give her a shot instead of taking pills that may or may not be
absorbed. The shots aren't fun (one in each hip) but should do the trick. I
think the name of the medication is Methotrexate. Hope I spelled that
right...

Best of luck

the name of the drug is not methotrexate -- it is depo-provera and unless
she is married...she shouldn't be having unprotected sex for more than just
pregnancy issues. Sorry to be preachy, but I have a friend dying of
aids...and it annoys me when people are so careless. With that aside,
pregnancy is not something that a VERY NEW post op wants.....she is just
barely getting in enough calories and nutrients for herself...let alone for
a developing fetus.

Actually, contrary to the second poster, it is not depo-provera.
Depo-Provera is a type of birth control taken in shot form every three
months- it is contraception, not "morning after" abortion. Unless
I misread your question, that is not what you are looking for (although I
would recommend it after this is solved, since that would have prevented
the situation to start with). The first poster was right, the medicine is
Methotrexate (also called Mifeprex). It is a chemical form of non-surgical
abortion and can be done before the first seven weeks of pregnancy have
passed. I was on Depo-Provera for six years and loved it, never had a
"scare" though my weight fluctuated terribly. Do yourself a big
favor and use condoms- you will regret it if you don't, I assure you. I
have lived through my mistakes (so far anyway), but a lot of people don't.
Unfortunately though, I am pre-op and have no idea the effects this
medication would have on her body- she definitely needs to go to her OB/GYN
immediately. Be safe and good luck :)
