Question:
How can you get the pros and cons of the surgeries?
I hear a lot of positive feedback from people that have had the surgery, but what do statistics say? How can I get researched information on this topic. Email me if you have any information. I am really considering the surgery, but would like more information from researchers and doctors. [email protected] — Cherae B. (posted on May 13, 2002)

Try doing a search on the internet. That should answer all your questions,
especially from a medical point of view.

Hi Cherae - Here are some links to some of the more informative sites
and/or documents I have found:
http://www.mayo.edu/proceedings/2000/jul/7507a1.pdf (Mayo Clinic's study
and conclusions on RNY surgery);
http://www.asbs.org/html/rationale/rationale.html (American Society of
Bariatric Surgeons' "rationale for surgery");
http://www.niddk.nih.gov/health/nutrit/pubs/gastsurg.htm (National
Institutes of Health statement on gastric bypass)and
http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/profile.phtml?N=S999834870 (AMOS
member Brenda Singer's profile, which includes a wealth of valuable info).
Good luck to you! - Anna (pre-op, waiting for approval)

Try the library at this site and "bariatric surgery" as a search
engine. It's a mountain of info but well worth the time it takes. Any
site preferring one type of surgery over another will glorify that surgerys
good points. You need unbiased, reliable info. Good luck!
