Question:
WLS vs. C-section Which is a more difficult surgery?

Difficult in what way? As in how difficult to perform? That would be a question for a doctor. If you mean how difficult was it to undergo each, you'll find varied responses. I was prepared for the worst after reading several people's profiles stating that wls was far more painful than the c section. I had my wls lap, but I found it far LESS painful than my c section. I was off pain meds out of the hospital for both operations, but the horizontal c section won hands down in the pain dept.

I had a c-sec in 93, WLS 01. I was on pain meds much longer with the c-sec, much more painful for me. My WLS was a walk in the park compared to 5 other surgeries that I have had. It felt like sore muscles to me. Everyones experiences are different though. And I have seen where some think that WLS is harder than a c-section.

Well, for me the c-sections (I had two) won hands down in the pain department.Maybe it is because the cut is lower on the body and horizontal instead of vertical. Don't know, except that I am getting around and more comfortable lying down ect...after my open rny than I was right after my c-sections. Hope this helps.

For me it was the C-Section. The WSL pain and recop time was not even close to the pain and recovery time when I had my C-Section.

Great Question...thanks for asking it, it really makes me fel better cause i had 2 c-sections and then had my tubes tied laproscopically so I guess i now have a pretty good idea of what to expect. Thank you all, my surgery is May 16...geting close!

Well I just got home from the hospital today I had an open RNY at 145 on Tuesday. I would have to say 2 c-sections was more difficult because it is lower down on your body. It is a little painful when you stand but I learned from the c-sections that the faster you get up the better you heal and faster. I was up walking around 4 hours after surgery. The doctors were pleased and my family and the other patients coulod believe it either. I was just determined to get it done. I am a little sore but he took out my staples and my drain before I left and gave me zantac and percocet. Good luck!!!!!!!!!

Definitly C-section. Two big reasons come to mind... when you are nursing a baby you can't have that lovely Morphine drip,(I begged the nurses to let me take mine home as a souvenir, but no dice, all I got was the ugly little booties for my feet)or even the wonderful liquid narcotic prescription for the first week or two. Also, when you have a C-section you DO get a wonderful, precious "souvenir" but you have to take care of it including a lot of sleep deprivation!

Not to sound negative..but I had a c-sec done in 2k..and was wondering the same thing before I had my open RNY 4-23..in my opinion this surgery is worse. Because my c-sec was so low it didn't interfere with everything the same way this incision down my entire abdomen does. Every breath, and every sneeze..no sleep..no eating..and I left the hospital with perkaset(SP.?) after my c-sec...only Tyl w/codeine after RNY. I mean no pain no gain...right? So I wouldn't say it's not worth the pain..but everyone's different..just be prepared.

Hi. I thought I would give this question ago too. I feel that they were about the same. If you are having your surgery lap then I believe you will notice the pain to be less because of the smaller incisions. My 3 c-sections and then the wls had the same recovery time. The incisions are the same size too approx. 6-7 inches. I had large babies. I planned my life around my wls like I was having another c-section. I am 2 1/2 weeks post op from open rny. You will notice the similarities. Hold a pillow over your incision to cough or laugh. Use your breathing apparatice, and then ,you have to walk like within the first day. Sound familiar?? God Bless you on your new life.
