Question:
i am 4weeks poat op and i am feeling........
like i did this for nothing. I have investigated wls for over year and now that i did it i feel like it is a waste of time. 4/15 i had distal rny and lost 18lbs by 4/21. i have not weighed since then but i feel like i have not lost anything since then. Did anyone feel like they was never going to lose anything. i am also feeling down because everything i eat i throw it back up, i try to get my water in between each meal and i cant stand any protein drinks or shakes. Can any wls old timers give me some words of advise......thanks you — stacey T. (posted on May 3, 2002)

I'm not an old timer (12 wks out today), but I know how you're feeling. I
felt like I was losing nothing, but I actually was losing. I'm on the slow
losing side (38 lbs in 2 months, go for my 3 month visit next wk). You're
eating so little that you will definitely lose. Not much agreed w/me early
on, and it hasn't necessarily changed much. Yogurt is fine and I still
have one every day. I've tried bologna or a hotdog, which was ok, but ham
and salami don't work at all. Tuna didn't work, and neither does chicken a
lot of the time. For some reason, cheese sits just fine, so I've been
having 2 slices of cheese as a meal quite often. I was getting really
depressed at first when trying different things and having none of them
work. Now I just stick with what works and try something new once every wk
or two, instead of daily. My choices can be quite boring, but at least I'm
feeling better consistently. I hope this helps.

I can understand where you are at right now... you arent feeling back to
even 80% yet, you cant really eat much, you havent lost enought weight
where you can justify what you have done! We all feel this way at 4 weeks
post op. I personally thought this surgery sucked for the first two months
and that I made a huge judgemental error in doing this to myself. Then
suddenly I woke up one morning and felt GREAT... like I never had
surgery... no side pain from the lap... drank a shake... had tremendous
energy... then my favorite jeans fell off my hips when I buttoned them! It
was a defining moment for me. I was 100% and I had lost enough weight
where I could see a huge difference and could no longer wear my largest
'group' of clothes. It was the first closet cleanout day! Persevere and
you will get to this point as well! Then you will look back and chuckle
some day. At 11 months post op sitting here as a size 10 instead of a
28... this surgery amazes me every day. Hang in there! Try Zero Carb
Isopure in Creamy vanilla, it tastes great... and add a little fruit and
lots of ice in the blender or a couple of sugar free fake oreos with the
ice... it tastes great! You can buy it at isopureoutlet.com for $30 a
cannister... where GNC is over $50.

I am 6 weeks out and felt the exact same way you did!! It does get better.
If some foods make you vomit, then you might be eating too much. Try eating
less, more frequently. Also, try some Isopure liquid protein drinks at GNC,
they are much, much, better than shakes. Also, get creative.. I love to go
out to eat and try different fish.I love to cook, but letting someone else
might make a difference. Also, keep eating popcicles!! They will help you
keep hydrated. Try sugar-free Koolaid. Just keep working at it!! The longer
time passes, the better you will feel. I was there too!!

If I read your posting right, 4/15/02 won't even hit 3-weeks until this
Monday - not 4 weeks. If you've already lost 18 lbs., that's fantastic.
Is it difficult? I think it's probably one of the hardest things I've ever
done. I had my surgery 4/09/02 and I'll hit 4-weeks this next Tuesday - it
is tough, no doubt about it. I'll be anxious to see what others will write
but wanted to say congratulations on your WLS - I think that your doing
awesome.

One more thing I wanted to add. For the first 8 wks, I was getting sick
pretty regularly, a couple of times a wk anyway. I thought this was eating
things which disagreed w/me, but it turned out that it was that coupled
with eating too quickly. That's one of the hardest things for me to do, to
slow down when eating, but I find I *must* or will almost definitely get
sick.

What you are going through is what I went through for many weeks. I am now
passed all that (Thank God) I have wasted alot of food trying out different
things to eat. You will be frustrated beyond words during this trial and
error period and you will lose the weight, believe me when I say this. As
far as throwing up, I still do that on rare ocassions. Some food refuses
to digest even after an hour and ahalf!! Take your time while eating. A
couple of bites and wait a few minutes. Also, this is very important. When
you are trying to eat make you are totally relax!! I swear the food will
not go down if you are tense or stressed out. I am alittle over 4 months
and sometimes I can't eat with my family at the dinner table. So keep this
in mind when you are trying to eat. I wish you all the best on your journey
and try to remember it will get better!!!
