Question:
I had only 40 cm or 15.5 inches bypassed. Is this common?

I have never be able to get an answer on this. What is the normal amount bypassed? I heard it is 70cm. Is 40 cm too little to be effective? I know the RNY is mainly restrictive but the amount bypassed helps too?    — Andrea P. (posted on April 21, 2002)

Your bypass is a short proximal which is fine since you are a *lightweight* compared to most who have this surgery. I am 5'8" and was 463lbs and my surgeon only bypassed 50 cm. Mine should have been longer but the surgeon was more concerned about the nutritional aspects long term Today I have lost a total of 270lbs and am working hard but enjoying life. You will do fine. You didn't put on the weight overnight and losing slowly is good for your body to keep up. Good luck. rita in vermont

I was bypassed 200 cm but am still losing very slowly. From your profile it looks like you are doing well.
