Question:
I'm looking for somebody who is 5'9
I'm 5'9" 275 pounds and wondering if there is somebody out there the same proportions. I wonder how much weight you lost and how fast. Thanks — Laureen59 (posted on April 21, 2002)

Hi Laureen. I am 5'9 3/4" and I weighed 292 before surgery VBG on
3/13/02. It has been 5 1/2 weeks and I have lost 37 pounds so far. My
doctor's goal weight for me is 175 lbs. and he said I should achieve that
before December. I think because we are taller, it takes a more
substantial weight loss to notice, but it is coming. I hope that helps
you. E-mail me if you have any questions. Good Luck!

Hi...I'm a little over 5'8 and I had gastric bypass (lap) on Dec. 6, 2001
and in the past 4 and half months I have lost a total of 91 pounds. My
starting weight was 287. I have gone from a size 26 to a 12 and I couldn't
be happier. Good Luck and if you have any questions please feel free to
email me. Lori Mason

I'm 5'10, starting weight of 298. Had VBG 03/01, at last weigh in (two
months ago) had lost 80lbs. I'm one of those slowwww losers. I've gone
from a size 24 to a 14 so far.
The slow losing part is my fault, I'm sure. Haven't been faithful in my
exercising or water intake.

I'm 5'9". I started much heavier than you (407) lbs. and have lost
177 lbs. so far (down to 230). I hope to lose another 50 lbs.

I'm 5'9 and started out a bit heavier than you at 305. I had open RNY on
Dec 27 2002 and I'm down about 75 lbs in these 4 months. I have kept a
record as I was loosing on my profile if you want to take a peek. I
started out really fast but have slowed down ALOT! I'm a plateau looser.
I'll loose a big chunk and then sit at about the same number for a couple
of weeks. The doctor said that I should be able to get down to 175-180
(without abdomoplasty) by next Christmas. I'd be happy there but want to
shoot for a little lower. Hope this helps!

Hi, there! I'm about 5'10" and was 307 at the time of my surgery (lap
BPD/DS). I am now almost 15 months post-op and so EXCITED to be just about
at 'goal'! :):) I stepped on the scale today at 178! I was in high
school last time I was this weight LOL. I am in a size 14 pants but can
wear size 12 dresses and short skirts (my tummy bulges out a bit but a firm
girdle should help that). I think that at 175 I'll have the 'normal' bmi
of 25 (now it is 26 or thereabouts - depending on the chart or
measurement!). I'm pretty confident that I will get down to 175 or perhaps
the low 170's. That damn Metropolitan Insurance Chart has my ideal weight
at around 160 but I think that is pretty thin. I feel and look great now
at 178. I'd be overjoyed if I'm solidly in the mid to low 170s by the time
my 'window' shuts at about 18 months post-op. I haven't been 'watching'
anything other than getting at least 80 gms protein/day (on most days). I
also try to reduce sugar intake but do indulge every now and then. I also
am not able to heat half as many carbs as I used to. I walk long distances
regularly. I wasn't the fastest loser but that was ok for me. I liked
having steady weight loss and haven't really suffered from sagging skin
(although my outer thighs, abdomen and upper arms/breasts are jiggly/loose,
I look pretty reasonable naked LOL). I had lost about 100 lbs by 8 months
out. I wasn't sure if I'd get down this far at almost 15 months out. I'm
still shrinkin'! LOL Now, the RNY might have a higher loss rate in the
first six months, I'm not sure. I know of some post-op DSers who seem to
lose a whole like immediately. All the best, (lap bpd/ds with gallbladder
removal, January 25, 2001, preop: 307 lbs/bmi 45; now: 178 lbs/bmi 26),

Hi Laureen,
I'm 5'9 3/4" and weighed 274 at my weigh in w/Dr. I was probably
around 278 when I actually had surgery. I had an open BPD/Ds w/gall bladder
removal. I've lost a little over 90 lbs and 48 3/4" at last
measurement. I feel great, I'm wearing for the most part 12's altho some
denim shorts are 14. Slightly tight in the middle. I feel absolutely
wonderful and look great. Supposedly the BMI chart has me in the range of
156-170. I was thinking 170 would be fine w/me. Anything else is well-nice.
Best of luck to you!

I'm 5' 8" (though my profile and doctor said I'm 5' 7"). Weighed
278 on day of surgery. Have lost 40 pounds so far in 10 weeks. No hunger,
no problems so far. Extremely happy with results! Constant, steady weight
loss!!!! I love my new tiny tummy!

I am 5'9" and I had my Lap RNY on 2/11/02 with a starting weight of
285. I'm 10 weeks out and have lost 49 lbs. so far. I guess I'm a
moderate loser...but I'm pretty happy with the results so far!!

I am 5 ft. 8 inches and started out at 284 pounds. I am 9 months post op
and have lost 120 pounds to put me at 164. I would like to lose another 10
pounds. I am not sure if that is realistic for me. I know the last 20
have been really hard to lose!!! I seem to be stuck! My arms and legs
look really skinny, but I still have a lot of fatty tissue left in my
stomach area. That should be no surprise since that is where I have
always carried most of my weight. I have an appt with a plastic surgeon
next month. I am interested in what he has to say. I have never been this
thin in my adult life and am unsure of what is a proper weight for me. I
am wearing mostly 14-16's and would really like to wear 12's! I am SO
pleased with my WLS that I hate to want more, but I can't help it! I often
wonder what size I could get into if I didn't have all this extra tummy
hanging around...:) Good luck!
