What you want is an "open" MRI. Go to this website:

I have cut and paste the info below:
New GE OpenSpeed MRI First in Central Ohio
Posted: 02/21/2002
The Department of Radiology began scanning patients Feb. 11 on a new
General Electric 0.7 Tesla OpenSpeed MRI, the first of its kind in central
Ohio. The first open MRI featuring such a high field strength, it is housed
at the OSU Medical Center's MRI Building with the 1.5 and 8 Tesla MRI
units. The higher field strength gives excellent image quality and, like
other open MRI units, the OpenSpeed is patient-friendly, excellent for
claustrophobic patients and able to accommodate patients weighing up to 500
pounds. The innovative swing table design allows for isocenter imaging
(important for extremity imaging), increases workspace, and is useful for
guiding interventional procedures. In addition, the unit's advanced imaging
techniques offer unique opportunities to expand the research performed at
OSUMC.

There is also a place in Toledo Ohio that does OPEN MRI, It is called OPEN
MRI. I had one done about 1 1/2 ago for my back before my back surgery.
They told me I could fit in the regular machine, I was about 280lbs then, I
went and couldnt fit in, I was so embarassed, So they ended up sending me
to Toledo. Any hospital should have a copy of open MRI nearest you. I know
it would be a long ride to Toledo from Columbus and I am sure there are
closer ones near you. My suggestion would be call a few hospitals and ask,
they should be able to give the numbers, or even make a appt as long as you
have a doctors order. Good Luck.:o)

My daughter had to have an open MRI. She had it at Berger Hospital in
Circleville. She had tried a conventional MRI but couldn't stand being in
such a confined area. She did fine with open. Good luck!
