Hi Ken. The basics: I had open RNY April 17, 2001. I started at 331 lbs, now about 220. Surgery went well but had a bleed the day after and bloodcount got very low. Recovered well from that and no other complications after. I feel great!! Sleep apnea, GERD & high cholesterol all gone. If there is anything specific, go to my page & feel free to e-mail me.

Surgery is the BEST thing I ever did for myself. My biggest problem right now, started swimming a lot, got swimmers ear:( Shows hat exercise can do, made me ill! All joking aside POST OP IS THE PLACE TO BE!

Surgery Date June 26th, 2001. 53 y/o. Weight at surgery..306 Now 191. No more diabetes, hypertension, joint pain, asthma, and medications for all those co-morbidities. I was a self-pay and I'd do it again tomorrow. 16 lbs to goal weight of 175. A weight I haven't seen since graduation from college in '70.

Great question, we men are certainly in the minority 'round here. Me: 42 yo, 6', BMI 47, scheduled for lap DS on 3/11 (Three weeks!). Looking forward to being thin again. I was once... for about a month... 10 years ago. Feel free to email.

My LAP RNY was December 28, 2001. I'm 6' tall and 34 years of age. Starting weight was 330 lbs and I'm down 55 lbs to 275. Not bad for less than two months. So far, I have no regrets.

I am down 60 pounds in just over 2 months. I was 400, now 340. I feel much better, and am able to walk alot farther than before. The only problems I have as of right now is a full, nauseated feeling at night that sometimes causes me to throw up a Mucousy substance. gross, I know, but it happens. It seems to be happening more frequently now, than it did a few weeks ago. Other than that I feel good, and can eat most anything(except the bad stuff), but in smaller quantities. Ifyou would have asked me right after I had the surgery if I would do it again, I would have whole heartedly screamed NO at the top of my lungs, but now after all the pain has subsided, and I am able to sleep in bed again I would have to say a resounding yes. This is the best thing I have ever done for myself.

I just had surgery wed 2/13,and I feel good already. I guess I was one of the lucky ones, not to have too much pain at all. Eating (or should I say drinking) is going good and now I am just waiting to be back 100% and to start seeing the weight fall off. Right now I have sleep apnea, diabetes, high cholestrol, and high blood pressure, not to mention all the other stuff that goes with being a "big guy" (which I hate being called),sweating, shortness of breath, joint pain, and not being albe to reach some parts of your body-won't miss any of that !!!!!!!!!!!! I think more men are starting to go for this now-at least I hav been talking to a few. Good Luck to you and all of us-our lives can only get better-----Gary

What would you like to hear? I have had my appt. with the Program Director, the Nutritionist and the Psychiatrist. I meet with the Surgeon on the 26th. I decided to pursue this surgery because I have herniated two discs and gained 70+ pounds from reduced activity level. I had always been overweight, but healthy until I screwed up the back. The more weight I lose, the less back pain I will have.
