Question:
Will slow release medication be as effective as before?
I have been taking Wellbutrin SR 150 and Slow Fe iron tablets. Will my new digestive system process these type of medication properly. — Gloria G. (posted on February 8, 2002)

Gloria, I am taking the same medicine. Before surgery it was SR, after
surgery I began taking it again. I gave it two weeks to build up a level
in my system and I noticed it was not working like it did before surgery.
I mentioned this to my dr. he said, "it passes through you before it
is completely released." He changed my prescription to the regular
kind. I take 3 , 100mg tabs a day, instead of 2 150 a day. All is fine
now. Hope this helps.

I was taking Welbuteran 150 SR 2/day now I am taking 100mg ( uncoated) 100
mg 3/day. I would get that iron changed too.

The timed release meds are not as predictable in post-op RNY people.
Stomach acid is all but gone, and the speed of movement is all changed.
The ferrous sulfate in any form will probably not help you post-op. There
are more WLS-friendly irons available than that.
