Question:
Would you reccomend getting the evaluation before you meet with the surgeon?
I am just so excited about the posability of surgery! Would you reccomend getting the psych eval before meeting with the surgeon, or wait until finding out what they say? — [Anonymous] (posted on December 27, 2001)

I wouldn't get the psych eval first unless you know for a fact that either
your ins. or doctor require it. Some don't. If you get it done and it's not
necessary, the ins. won't pay for it. So my answer is wait.......or call
and find out if either requires it.

The program I am with you need the referral from the PCP, the psych
evaluation and an appointment with the dietician before you see the
surgeon. By the time you see the surgeon, every thing is done and he sets
up the surgery date. I guess it just depends on what you surgeon or program
requires. Good Luck on you journey!

I feel the same way! I asked my surgeon if there was anything I could get
started with while waiting for his consult and he said I could go for the
psych eval. So I am going for that before meeting my surgeon. As long as
your doctor requires it. Most insurances pay for a certain amount of psych
visits a year so I just got a referral from my primary. I know how you
feel......the wait is killing me!
