Question:
I had the VBG surgery 12 years ago. I got pregnant soon after. Up until then I could
not get pregnant so I was not expecting it at all. I was so woried about getting enough of the right foods in me that I must ahve streatched my stomache. He was born prematurely and even in the Hospital they feed me every hour until he was born.(One week) I'm sure this is why I did not get the last benifits of the surgery, but I am so afraid that some how I will screw this one up. Then where will I be? — Lisa T. (posted on December 3, 2001)

I have read, though I cannot remember where, I am sorry, that the VBG fails
in something like 65% of women who get pregnant. They think it is from the
angle and the pressure of the baby pressing against the remodeled sotmach
that causes it, not from the actions of the mother. It sounds like you are
going for a revision? I wish you the best of luck... and remember, your
_surgery_ was a failure, NOT YOU!

My surgeon doesnt do VBGs normally because of the failure rate, so the
surgery failed you. VBG revisionsare usually highly successful, and I have
met quite a few at support group meetings. The malabsorbtion will help you
keep the weight off,

I was in the same position. I had my VBG 7.5 years ago and lost 82 pounds
in six months. I got pregnant six months post-op (they told me to wait at
least two years, oops!
:-)
My darling son was so worth it, but I never lost another pound after
delivery. I'm having a revision to RNY December 11th.
I wish I could be more positive, but this is just my story, and everyone is
different.
