Question:
Can someone please tell me what, if any, are the side effects of aspertame?
I know it is in my Crystal Lite... I just want to know if it causes and certain ill feelings. — Janet C. (posted on November 28, 2001)

I don't know about all the side effects, but I know if I have too much
aspertame, I get really bad headaches.

I've read that ones insulin levels react to aspartame the same way it
reacts to sugar. It doesn't have the calories and whatnot, but your
insulin does go up in response to it. I personally don't think there's
anything wrong with it. I drink Crystal Lite and have never had any ill
side-effects.

I don't like the aftertaste. I noticed some cramping and then the runs.

It gives me horrible migraines. It also makes me hungry and I just get this
all over "UGH" kind of feeling. I personally don't think it is
very good stuff and avoid it like the plague.

It doesn't affect me at all, and I personally do not believe it has any
serious adverse side affects. It does help you maintain your taste for
sugar, but I never intended to avoid all sweets forever anyway. I have a
good friend with type I diabetes and he said it definitely does not affect
your glucose levels. He can't imagine what he would do without it, has used
it for years, never had a problem. Try it, you may be one of the few who
get headaches or diarreah, but you will most likely be just fine.

I have switched from Equal to Splenda due to the fact that I am a Diabetic
and 16 days from WLS and my sugar levels aren't being controlled, the day I
stopped using Equal my Blood Sugar dropped and has been lower ever since by
over 200+ even though I am eating the same foods and just changed the Equal
in my diet.
I too believe Equal was not affecting my Diabetes but I was wrong. Bren
