Question:
For those of you who had an epidural with Open RNY

OK friends, I am counting down the days til surgery date & getting nervous with each passing day. My surgeon recommends the epidural because he says I will not feel a thing as long as I have it. I will be in the hospital for 4 days & he takes the epidural out on day 3. My question is this: Did any of you that used the epidural have any regrets & do you actually NOT have any pain as long as it is in. What about when they take it out, is the pain extremely bad then? I had 3 epidurals with all of my kids, but I have been told this is completely different. Thanks again! Don't know what I would do without all of you!    — Lori M. (posted on November 13, 2001)

I had a general with my RNY but I had a c-section with an epidural and I will say the epidural was great. No pain, I was awake for the entire procedure and they left the tap in for 48 hours to administer pain meds to the pain site. It beat the pump I had with my RNY. I begged for an epidural but BTC does not use it. It is a bit painful when they put it in but it helps you get moving quicker.
