Long term health concerns.

I am 3 weeks pre-op for RNY and have been trying to get information on long term studies, specifically related to malabsorbtion of vitamins and minerals. What are the long-term effects of bypass surgery? Are there long term studies to be found?    — vwood (posted on November 6, 2001)

There are many "studies" out there. Rosy, happy ones, grim & nasty ones, not so many valid ones. There are studies that Tums is adequate in calcium. Based on what? Not bone density studies, only on blood work. Any shortages are assumed to be patient error vs program error. But there are predictable (and avoidable) shortages that one can expect. Yes.
