Question:
What can I do for my fear?
I finally got a surgery date, now I am getting scared! After weeks of being approved & waiting for a surgery date, I finally got one for November 26th, but now I am getting scared thinking maybe this is not what I need to do. I guess it is cold feet. I need some help from others who went thru this & how you got over the fear. Thanks!! — Lori M. (posted on October 23, 2001)

Honestly, know you're not alone, and the more you talk talk talk talk talk
talk about what you're feeling, the better you may feel. I done the same
thing, 9 months of approval but when I FINALLY got my surgery date, I
FREAKED! I called all of my friends, over and over again to "talk it
out" if you have a support network, use them... Come to the chat
rooms and chat.. and well, the post about xanax wasn't too far off if all
else fails (jk/jk) Nothing can take that "Oh my God what am I
doing" feeling away.... Good luck on your journey...

Agree to prior posts. My PCP offered an RX for anxiety. Also, just
reading posts everyday and doing major organizing at home kept me busy.
Good luck! -10wk PostOp and NO REGRETS!

I honestly believed I would die during surgery, and was shocked to wake up
in recovery. Read my profile I was the biggest chicken around. Down 83
pounds in 3 months. Today is my 3 month anniversary. Best thing I ever
did:)

Replace your fears with knowledge. Read everything you can get your hands
on. Every moment you are learning about this surgery is a moment you arent
afraid! "Sieze the moment!" Go to every site listed on this site.
Learn Learn Learn..... It works :)

I was scared too! The worst was when I was being preped for surgery. How I
would have loved to walk out!. But I knew I had no other options left but
surgery and if I did walk out I'd only be back. And by the time the
insurance might not be there. But in any case, I'm glad I went through it.
If you were'nt afraid I'd seriously wonder about you. ;)

I had prayed a lot about having my revision to transected pouch and I felt
peace about it. (I'm 1 wk post op) In the hospital while waiting for my
time to get my IV and all, I had a few minutes by myself. An inner voice
spoke to me as I sat in the waiting room and prayed. "You have given
it to me. I accept this and give you peace. Now show others your faith by
your calm." WoW! I became very peaceful. I think if we just put
this in God's hands and accept His will, a great burden is lifted. God will
take care of all our troubles if we ask Him. Trust Him and go forward. He
wants you to be happy.

I can totally relate to where you are coming from. I felt the same way once
I got my date. I continuously prayed and would ask for signs from above
that this was the right path for me. I knew without a doubt if I continued
on without the surgery I would die young and leave my daughter and husband
behind. I joined support groups and read up on anything I could get my
hands on. I would definitely say knowledge and prayer are what you need
right now! Good luck and congratulations on your date!

That's a normal raction. I think it helps to talk about your
concerns and attending support group meetings and listening to
everyone's experience helped me a lot. I think it's the fear of
the unknown. If you think you are afraid and worried now....wait
until the night before you go to the hosital!!!! lol....
