Question:
Does anyone know a good letter I can write to have my surgen sign
so that residents DO NOT operate on me and use me as a guinea pig. I am going to a teaching hospital and I don't want anyone but my doctor tuouching me. I have a bad experience when I had my gallbladder out 14 years ago. — Bonnie S. (posted on October 14, 2001)

Maxine has it 100% right. I work for one of the largest (and best...)
teaching hospitals in the nation. If you don't want residents involved
in your care, don't go to a teaching hospital. I don't know what happened
14 years ago; but, residents are supervised and guided by senior
physicians
and your surgeon will definitely be the one to do the surgery. A surgical
resident might assist; but, your surgeon will do the actual surgery and
direct
your post-op care.
