Don't worry, that will change. I'm 13 weeks post op and at 6 weeks had
trouble tolerating protein too. But it does get better. Make sure you
stick to low fat protein.

You didn't mention what type of protein is making you nauseaus so I'm going
to assume you are talking about animal sources of protein. If this is the
case, there are many non-meat sources of protein that might work better for
you while your tummy is healing. Try some of the following and see how they
do: nuts, nut butters (peanut butter); dairy products such as yogurt,
cheese, cottage cheese, milk; soy products such as tofu, tempeh, miso, TVP
(texturized vegetable protein); wheat gluten aka "seitan";
protein bars. Give some of these a try. If you need more information,
please email me. Best wishes in your recovery.

I can only assume you mean meats and such? As the previous poster said
peanut butter, cottage cheese, refried beans. Those are the types of
protein I ate at six weeks or so. You MUST eat slowly and chew thoroughly .
Yes, even cottage cheese. The first stage of digestion begins in the mouth.
You should really look into a liquid protein , it really helped me
especially in those early months when you don't care if you eat or not. I
hope this is helpful to you. Good luck.

Barbara: I wasn't able to eat any meat until about six months post-op. I
got my protein from shakes, cheeses, cottage cheese, and eggs. At almost 10
months post-op now, I can eat meat with no problem.

Hi Barbara, I am 9 weeks out and cannot eat meat, fish, chicken, or any
source of animal protein. I can eat cottage cheese, regular cheese, beans,
and I also rely on protein shakes. My doc said that this is normal and
sometimes it takes a while , up to several months to adjust to eating those
types of food. Your not alone. :)

i, too , am six weeks post op. I cannot tolerate beef. have been eating
cottage or ricotta cheese- part skim, hard cheeses, egg whites, chick peas,
applesauce; i can tolerate white albacore tuna with mayo up to two ounces.
I tried a hot wing last week. chewed the chicken and spit it out. Stomach
still too tender for that much digestive work. good luck.

I am about 9 weeks post-op and my husband is 5 weeks post-op. He's having
a much more difficult time than I, although he's improving. He has also
had nausea and terrible, powerful retching - particularly after eating
meast. One of the things I did when I was recently post-op was to make
vegetable broth - but - because I wanted protein with every meal, I put
cooked meat through the food processor and added that to the broth. I had
no preblem tolerating that. My husband had no problem with the broth
either. Additionally, what I've been doing for him is putting cooked meat
(veal, beef, turkey, chicken) through a meat grinder. He eats that,
tolerates it, and has no problems with either nausea or retching, He has
also had meat loaf and no problem with that either. If you want to try, I
surely hope it works for you. Oh, yes, one more thing that I have never
seen mentioned on this site - our nutritionist wanted us to eat 2 soft
boiled eggs (with the yoks) every day. He said eggs are the greatest
source of protein. Good luck, Nancy ([email protected])
