How long does it usually take to be approved for RNY

It took months of testing and jumping through hoops, but when it actually
was submitted to my insurance I was approved in less than 2 weeks. (I just
found out today that I was approved!!!) Good Luck

I was approved in 5 days. I didn't need any special testing.
And I didn't require a psych eval. My pcp referred me to my
surgeon. His office contacted the insurer for authorization
and 5 days later my surgeon called with the good news. It was
so quick that I had to turn down the first surgery date they
gave me......I could clear up things at work that fast.

My process from start to receiving a surgery date was 2 months. I did have
to go to psych eval workshops and meetings, but they were great and I would
not have it any other way. I learned a great deal. The insurance took 7
days from the date they received my paperwork. My advice is to research,
learn and manage your own stuff. Others may drop the ball if you are not
careful and this could delay your approval. Good Luck!

My insurance took 4 months to approve me for the surgery. From mid april to
mid august I waited. When I started to agressively BUG them then they
responded.

I started my process May 7, 2001 and had surgery July 13, 2001. I was very
persistant with the insurance company. I researched the procedure on this
website along with others, and I called them daily . It's important to be
nice to the customer service representative. They are your only link to
the inside. If you can try to deal with the same person. Tell that person
your "sad story". The surgeon's office will usually speed things
along, but also check on them weekly. Good Luck!
