Question:
Anyone out there use United Healthcare PPO - Arizona
I am trying to see what all this carrier is going to need to get me approved the first time out. I waiting on approval and I have yet to hear anything. — Shrita C. (posted on September 4, 2001)

Hi - My understanding of UHC PPO is that they will pay unless your policy
has a specific written exclusion. If your policy has an exclusion, you are
pretty much out of luck. If there is no exclusion, but they deny you
anyway, appeal and keep at them. I understand how you feel as I too have
UNITED for insurance and waiting for them was the worst part of the
experience by far. The uncertainty and being at their mercy for something
that will completely change your life is frustrating and difficult. My
policy, by the way, had an exclusion and I wasted months trying to get them
to pay, but I had the surgery 3 weeks ago as a self pay patient and even
though I'm still in pain and recuperating from the surgery, it's the best
money I've ever spent. Feel free to email me if I can help you with
anything or answer any questions.Just check my profile for my email
address.

I have United Helathcare and spoke to a rep on the phone. I was assured
that WLS is covered provided there is a pre-authorization obtianed by the
doctor. I am still in the consultation stage.

I have UHC PPO through The Limited CO. and was approved fairly quickly once
the paperwork was in the right hands. I had to call and call to check on
the process and had been told that it was in medical review for about 2
weeks. I kept calling and finally found out that it wasnt even in the
right place. Once it was, I was approved in less than 24 hours. Things
have been great since then. I had surgery on June 13th!
