Question:
Has anyone been approved that has MS?
If so, how's it going, and did you have any problems with the approval process, or the surgery? — Cherie P. (posted on August 13, 2001)

I have MS and I had a Lap RNY 4 weeks ago. As far as the surgery was
concerned the Dr said it could not have gone better. I did experience a set
back with the MS at first. Right after surgery I could not stand for a
couple of days. With the help of physical therapy 3 times a week, I feel at
this point I am where I was prior to surgery. All the dos involved agree
that loosing 100 - 120 pounds will make it a lot easier to maneuver myself.
At three weeks out, I'm down 25 pounds! (and it is getting easier to get
around!) Good luck and email me if you like.

I was diagnosed with MS about 3 years ago. I am currently on
Avonex as well as multiple other meds. I reguested approval
for a DS and was approved without any guestions. I then changed my mind and
requested approval for a RNY. Once again
they approved me within one day. My MS was not mentioned.
I would think that any weight loss would only be a benefit
for us. It's hard enough sometimes to get around due to the extra weight
and the MS related fatigue.
I wish you well.

I was diagnosed with MS in Jan. 1988 and had my open RYN approved and my
surgery date is coming up on Nov. 9th. I am in remission but have a fatigue
problem that can only get better with weight loss. I am now at 285# and am
very optimistic about my health improving greatly with WLS. I realize my MS
isn't going away but it should be much easier to deal with at 140#. Good
Luck to all!!!!!! Shelley
