Question:
What to eat a couple of months out?

Hi everyone, I have a simple question. I am having a hard dealing with the fact that I can only eat an ounce at a time. I need to know there is light at the end of the tunnel. FOr those of you who are a couple months out or more what is a typical meal/day like. Although I know we shouldn't eat chinese, mexican food all the time, sparingly is ok has anyone had any luck with these foods?    — [Anonymous] (posted on July 22, 2001)

I'm not sure why you think you should eat Chinese or Mexican food. At first, some people may find that rice does not agree with them, but there's nothing wrong with these foods. You probably want to avoid foods that have been fried (i.e. sweet-n-sour pork, egg rolls, etc.), but the meats and veggies in Chinese are good for you. You can always ask that they stir-fry with as little oil as possible. When I was a new post op, refried beans with a little cheese were one of my favorites.

If you are going to be successful and keep the weight off, I think you have to develop a new relationship with food. You eat for nourishment; not for entertainment. Here's what I ate yesterday: Breakfast: one boiled egg, 4 saltine crackers, tea Snack: 0ne half of Carb Solutions Protein Bar with tea Lunch: Some sliced chicken with some salad/lite dressing Snack: The other half of the protein bar, with tea Dinner: Baked fish with some carrots Snack: Sugar free jello with a spoonful of lite cool whip Througout the day, I drank lots of water and several cups of herb tea. That's a pretty typical day. If you eat as few carbs as possible and drink gallons of water, you won't get hungery between meals. Sometimes I'm not even hungery at mealtime and I have to make myself eat. I'm not a saint....especially on the weekends. I'll have half a bagel, a baked potato, or couple of cookies. When I go to restaurants for special occassions, I order whatever I want. I can't eat enough to do any damage! Once you start losing weight food just isn't all that important.
