Question:
How do you get protein from the shakes and not dump?
In the first weeks when you are on a clear liquid diet, how do you get your protein? If you use the protein powders, what do you mix them with? If not milk, then what? How do you keep from dumping on the sweet content in the powdered mixes? — Susan G. (posted on July 6, 2001)

Susan, just what Lee Anne said, and instead of mixing the powder in milk,
you use water.

There are several products with no sugars or so low as to be harmless. My
#1 choice is 0g of sugar, + water, 0g of sugar. 2nd choice has 2g of sugar
+ water, 0g of sugar. I don't use milk at all, not for 7 yrs. Never missed
it and sure dont' miss that wad of sugar. You can also mix proteins with
sugar free Tang or Crystal Light, if you prefer the fruity types.

My surgeon explained that during the first few weeks, the focus is on your
pouch healing and not to worry about protein intake. We actually weren't
allowed protein drinks the first 10 days (clear liquids only).
