Question:
I had a Roux-en-y procedure 14 months ago and have stainless steel clips, I am
scheduled to have an MRI done on my liver in the next week, I was told by another gastric bypass patient that you cannot have an MRI because of the clips/staples. Have any of you have an MRI after bypass surgery with stainless steel clips/staples. I ask the Radiologist and she stated that there is a long list of item which will prevent you from having and MRI, but that if the clips were at least 6 weeks old I could have the MRI. Needless to say I am a little bit concerned and scared at the thought that the clips could be pulled out. — ann A. (posted on July 6, 2001)

Ann, chances are better than not that the clips you have are not
stainless, but titanium. Most surgical staples/clips are
now all titanium.Which won't be bothered by the Magnetic field
of the MRI.
Good luck, hope your liver is ok.
