Question:
Why do you have to stop taking the pill one month prior to surgery?
I heard that you have to stop taking birth control one month prior to surgery? when can you start again and why do you need to stop? Thank You — Jennifer L. (posted on June 13, 2001)

My doc says it is because the pill can cause blood clots and blood clots
are a possibility after any surgery. Stopping the pill simply gives you
less of a chance of developing this serious complication.

Check with your surgeon to see what he/she wants. I took my pills right up
to the day before my surgery. - Kate -
