Question:
For those of you 60 yr+, what what recovery and weight loss like.
Did you feel your recovery took longer and your weight loss was slower due to your age. Any complications? I'm 60yr and waiting for approval from my ins. co. — Aloha D. (posted on June 10, 2001)

I'm 57. My recovery was rapid and event free. No complications
whatsoever. Went back to my office job in 5 days. I had a lap rny. The
gal in the bed next to me at the hospital was 69 years old and she was
running circles around me, that's how fast she was recovering. I stayed in
the hospital one day longer than she did. And she was diabetic. So age
doesn't seem to have much to do with recovery.

I'm posting for my coworker and friend who was so thrilled with my weight
loss that she followed me to have lap BPD/DS surgery a year ago at the age
of 68. She went back to work after 2 weeks (it took me 3) and had her
tummy tuck 2 months ago (again following my lead to my plastic surgeon).
She is more surprised than any at 69 to find she is a size 6. Since she is
not connected on the internet she finds it hard to believe that she can
drop the dieting and depend on this surgery for longterm weight loss, so
she has finally begun to enjoy eating and listening to her body rather than
those "low fat, low sugar" dieting tapes that don't work. Her
blood work is great and she is doing so well that her daughter has also
followed in her footsteps. It is the surgeons responsibility to ensure
that you are in good enough health to withstand the surgery -- just as if
you needed to have ANY surgery, but it can only improve the quality of your
health and life. Good luck
