Question:
I had my surgery 3-21-01..This is 04-01-01...I'm having pain in my upper midback.

The pain is similar to hunger pain..comes and goes. I'm afraid I'm drinking too much liquid than not enough liquid. Go from one extreme to another. Sometimes feels like gas pains...Then I think maybe it's in my lungs. I'm scared about this.    — Leewan V. (posted on April 1, 2001)

Call your surgeon. I have had this same problem and it only got worse. I am being checked out now for ulcer(s), gastritis, pancreatitis, and a few other things. Please let us know what it turns out to be, and I'll do the same. Best Wishes, Jesse

You know Leewan , the more you worry about this the worse it will get. You need to call your doctor honey, especially if you are scared. God bless you baby , just call , and put your mind to rest.

I had surgery 3-28-01. I have had more back pain than anything else. It has not gotten any better or any worse since the day after surgery. I am not sure if it is gas, laying on the hard surgery table for 5 hours or what. I have my first post op on Friday, you can bet I will be bringing it up then if not before. I have heard of people who have had very serious complication that started with back pain. Do not ignore it but do not dwell on it either. If it is gas or muscular it will resolve on it's own with time and exercise. If it gets worse, contact your doctor ASAP.

If you still have your gallbladder, it could be gallstones. I had pain in my upper back for a long time before I finally got the courage to ask a doctor, it it turned out that I had to have my gallbladder taken out. The test is just an ultrasound and then you drink icky stuff and lie under a big machine that tracks the stuff through your system. Non-invasive. Don't suffer, dear. It's probably minor but the anguish and pain will affect your recovery so you really need to have it checked out.

Hi, I had my surg. on 3-22-01. I am also having some mid back pain, I think it is due to the way we hold our selves from the surg.( protecting Tender area) Do you notice it more if you are up moving around alot. I am up alot, but I find if I take a hot shower and let the water run on my back it helps. Also when it starts hurting just rest for a while. Hope this helps.

It could be that you are producing too much acid. Your Dr. can give you a prescription for prilosec.

I realy doubt that it's your gallbladder. It's probably healing pains, You should call your surgeon though to explain your pain, they should be able to explain. good luck

I had my surgery on March 27th and I am still having a lot of middle back pain too. Especially if I stand or sit in a straight chair (at work) for too long. I do not have a gall bladder and it does not feel like gas pain, it is just straight pain.

I had the same thing, and here's my theory: it's two things. One, when you carry a lot of extra weight, the muscles are struggling to compensate. Once the weight is gone, your body has to adjust...my posture is awful now! I hvae to remember not to slouch, but that's what the muscles want to do...you just have to retrain them. Plus, immediately post-op, there is trapped air in the body cavity, and it usually rises to your upper back and shoulders, creating a severe pain. Nothing you can do about it...I used a hot water bottle until it worked itself out. I'm probably talking out my rear, but that's my theory, and I'm sticking to it! Good luck to all...

I have also had this pain. I have always seen a Chiroprator and he told me that losing the amount or weight that I have lost will cause this ache. Your body has a lot of adjusting to do along the losing road. The middle back area was holding up all the overweight and need to re-adjust itself. It will get better. Exercise does help. Good Luck!
