Question:
Can I hear from woman that have had a child a duo switch
I am researching the distal bypass w/ ds. I plan to have a baby about 2 yrs. post op and want to know if there are any others out there that have had that particular procedure and have had a child — Chenoah H. (posted on March 24, 2001)

I also am having the Duodenal Switch, and would like to have one more child
a couple of years down the road. I have a friend who had the DS in Oct of
99, and got pregnant in April of 2000, only 6 months after her surgery. She
had already lost 100 lbs and was extrememly concerned about the safety of
her pregnancy. Her surgeon told her that the baby was like a parasite and
would take everything it needed. She decided to go ahead with the
pregnancy, she felt it was a gift from God. It wasn't easy and the baby
took everything she had. She was nausious the entire 9 months, and had a
hard time keeping any food down. She had a beautiful baby girl January 4th.
She was a little on the small side, 5 lbs 4 oz I think. Her childbirth was
fairly easy and she got to go home after just a day or two. I am happy to
report she is now down 200 lbs and is about ready for her tummy tuck!! In
answer to your question, I think it would be fine to have a little one a
couple years down the road. Just be very careful that you don't have an
'accident'! It will be much easier to wait. That is my plan anyway!
