Question:
What did I do?
I had part of a scrambled egg with cheese for lunch yesterday. I have eaten this before with no problem. I have had a LAP RNY. After eating within 10 minutes I was in severe pain. I wasn't queasy but felt like I needed to throw up. I ate that at 1:00 and was in pain the rest of the day and all through the night. I tried heaving some to no avail. I was in a lot of pain. I feel better this morning, but I am afraid to eat or drink anything. What happened? Did I get a block or did I overeat? I never want this to happen again. I chewed really well so I don't know how I could have blocked. Please HELP!! — Trina L. (posted on March 3, 2001)

Trina, How far post op are you? I tried an egg too soon after surgery and
the same thing happened. I am 12 wks post now and eggs are still a
problem. You probably ate too fast. This is something that happens with a
lot of different foods (solids) for a while so it is just a trial and error
experience. And a learning experience. Good luck.

I am 11 months post-op lap RNY, and I have found only 2 things that I just
cannot eat...pork and eggs. Each time that I have tried, it feels as if a
tennis ball is lodged in my pouch for hours. When I first asked my
surgeon, he stated that some patients have a very difficult time with eggs,
but couldn't explain why. He suggested that I wait a few weeks and try
again, but after several miserable experiences I have decided that a life
without eggs is not such a bad trade-off for the 125 lbs. that I have lost
and will not see again :-) Good luck!
