Question:
My PCP will not refer me or any of his patients for this surgery but...

My PCP wont refer me for surgery or any of his patients, says its to drastic, but my surgeon at the Bariatric Treatment Center sent me to his office with a pre-op assessment for a cardiologist, I was to give this to my PCP and have him refer me to a cardiologist... He wont even do that!!! I am so upset, Him not giving me a referral letter for the Ins co (Aetna PPO) is one thing but not referring me to a cardiologist, isn't that his job if that is what my surgeon requires??? This is MY decision to have this surgery, I can't understand him having total control!!! I guess I have to find a new PCP, Looks like I've got a lot longer road ahead than I thought... can't even get past GO here... :( Anyone know of any PCP's in the Flushing/Flint MI area that will refer patients for this surgery... Renee-find another PCP....my PCP was thrilled and said she would help me through this anyway she could....you're going to need the support of you PCP even after the surgery...so don't let a PCP stand in your way if you're determined to have this surgery.....be tough for your future.Good luck.

Hey Renee, bummer huh?? I don't know if you have a PPO or HMO, but if you have a PPO, generally you do not NEED a referral from your PCP! I didn't! Just called the surgeon of my choice and they took it from there. Already have my LOMN done and am awaiting approval!
